Bald Cypress is actually a conifer. It is a large tree that reaches 100 feet with a straight trunk up to 8 feet in diameter. It will be happiest with its feet in fresh water. In standing water, they will develop woody growths from the root system generally called “knees”. It is these knees that make the Bald Cypress a favorite specimen tree since the effect from an old tree can be stunning. Bald Cypress are deciduous meaning that they will lose their leaves in winter.
