A large tree up to 80 feet, the Burr Oak is noted for its enormous acorns which develop in a fuzzy, mossy cup. The size of the rich acorn makes Burr Oak acorns a favorite of wild life in the area. It naturally occurs in limestone soils but will tolerate more acidic soils in the county. This is a member of the White Oak family and as such it shows resistance (but not immunity) to oak wilt.
