Trees We Like

Trees are an integral part of the plant community.  They provide a host of essential benefits to the natural world.  They are food; they are shelter; they have been called the “Lungs of the Earth”.  They help to mitigate flood.  But to most people, they are shade, fruit, nuts and beauty.  In this section, the Gonzales Master Gardeners invite you to explore the many aspects of trees.  We have concentrated here on trees that are particularly suited to Gonzales County whether they be shade, ornamental, fruit or nut trees.  We have provided a brief overview of many of these trees and we invite you to visit other resources available through the links associated with the write-ups.  We do this to acquaint you with the best sources of information we know of and to provide you with the best information we know of where you can choose to look for more than we provide here. The recommendations we offer for specific trees and varieties in these sections are based upon our own research and experiences.  We hope you will enjoy!
